Spotlight: North Cariboo Air
As the name implies, North Cariboo Air has its roots in BC’s North Cariboo Region – the company was incorporated in Williams Lake in 1957. Together with Joint Venture partner Bailey Helicopters, their combined fleet of 47 modern aircraft specialize in providing Air Transport solutions in their own backyard – The Cariboo and Peace Regions of British Columbia. Their business model is based on building strong relationships in the areas in which they operate; as their corporate literature states: “We are humbled to have established strong partnerships with a number of First Nations communities in the Peace Region and throughout British Columbia.”
Being initially introduced to NCA through representatives of the Doig River First Nation, AFDE has been using North Cariboo Air as our charter air service since we arrived on-site. From the beginning of 2019 through March 2022, NCA has serviced our project with more than 850 flights – moving over 40,000 AFDE passengers. North Cariboo prides itself in delivering friendly and convenient service to their clients. AFDE’s passengers through the Edmonton hub can attest that sisters Karye Wright and Janice Moro meet this standard.
Growing up in the tiny community of Kavanagh just outside of Leduc, Alberta, the Edmonton International Airport was a significant employer in the area. Janice has always worked at the airport in a variety of roles, both as an Airport employee and with other airlines like Air Transat and Royal Airlines. Karye has also worked for Canadian North and Executive Flight Centre. But they both landed at North Cariboo Air, and together they have almost 30 years of combined experience with the company!
Janice enjoys the fact that even though as a Flight Attendant she is always in the air, working for a Charter Service with a hub in Edmonton allows her to be home just about every night. And there are special events like fishing charters to Northern Saskatchewan or executive retreats in Las Vegas that provide just enough variety to keep the work exciting.
Karye is primarily a Customer Service Agent, but she steps in to fill just about any role when required. She holds a D/A License, which allows her to drive within the Airport’s secure perimeter. She’s very familiar with AFDE as she generally fills out the manifests for all of our NCA flights.
They both describe themselves as “People Persons”, and that’s what they love about their jobs. They approach their jobs in a very professional manner – they are just two of six sisters….so they know how to stand their ground! But they also try to joke around a bit and keep things light-hearted. Karye says, “Our dad used to work on the rigs and be gone for two or three weeks at a time. So we know that it can be stressful for our passengers knowing that they will be away from family for awhile. That’s why we just try to show a little extra care and attention – we are just trying to take away that travel stress from all of you.”
Thank you Karye and Janice, and all of the NCA team who get us to and from site safely every rotation.
